BG Group was a British multinational oil and gas company founded in 1997, headquartered in Reading, United Kingdom. The company operated in about 25 countries and specialized in the exploration, production, and liquefaction of natural gas, with a strong emphasis on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). BG Group was one of the world's major LNG producers and the largest LNG supplier to the United States.
The company's operations were divided into two main segments: upstream operations, which involved the exploration and production of oil and gas, and LNG shipping and marketing. BG Group produced approximately 680,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and held proven commercial reserves of around 2.6 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The company employed around 5,200 people and was publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange until its acquisition by Royal Dutch Shell in 2016.
BG Group served a diverse range of industrial and commercial customers, particularly large energy consumers and utilities in the U.S. market, leveraging its global operations and supply sources to meet the demand for natural gas and LNG.
